Coastal Martial Arts Open - 2018

Unified Taekwon-Do Legacy West - 2018

Mr. Labossiere and several Sandalwood black belts attended Unified Taekwon-Do's Legacy West events, in Phoenix, AZ during the April 13th to 15th weekend.

Grand Master Hwang pesented Mr. Labossiere the Unified Taekwon-Do 2018 Legacy Award at event.

15th Anniversary Weekend Celebration Activities

November 1st marked 15 years since Sandalwood Martial Arts came into being.  In honour of that milestone a number of activities were held during the October 29th weekend.  The events included an all ranks seminar conducted by Grand Master Hwang and Ms. Jade Hwang, a black belt test, a black belt seminar and a celebration dinner.

2016 Run For The Cure

On October 2nd, Sandalwood members participated in the Run For The Cure.

2016 Victoria Symphony Splash

On July 31^st Sandalwood members again volunteered at the Victoria Symphony Splash.  This marked our tenth year of supporting the event during which time Sandalwood has provided ninety six volunteers who have occupied various roles including team leaders and group coordinators!

Grand Master Hwang's 2016 Summer Camp

On July 14th - 17th Mr. Labossiere, and Ms. Barnes-Roberts, our member from Toronto, attended Grand Master Hwang's summer camp, Connecticut, with over a hundred other UITF members.  The camp included a large variety of training opportunities, including several Grand Master Hwang seminars and with numerous senior instructors providing simultaneous specialized training sessions .

Sandalwood Members Teach Co-ed Self-defence At Local High School

In early June, Ms. Watson and Mr. Labossiere jointly taught two self-defence classes to a co-ed group of students at Spectrum Community School.

After discussing the differences between men’s and women’s self-defence, they taught a variety of verbal and physical strategies for defence in different situations.  For some activities, they worked with the whole group together and at other times split the group into boys and girls and worked on gender-specific issues. 

Comments received after class were universally, “This was really fun,” and “I could use these skills in the future.”
